Why should Christians share the gospel?

Many believers immediately think about obedience, compassion for the lost, or the reality of eternity. While all of these are important motivations, Scripture points us to something even greater: the glory of Jesus Christ.

The Bible reveals Jesus as the radiance of God’s glory (Hebrews 1:3). His glory was seen on the Mount of Transfiguration, where His appearance became dazzling white before Peter, James, and John (Mark 9:2-8). It was seen again when the Apostle John encountered the risen Christ and fell at His feet as though dead (Revelation 1:17).

Yet Jesus Himself taught that His greatest display of glory would be found at the cross.

The King of Glory willingly endured suffering and death to redeem sinners. Isaiah prophesied:

“He was pierced for our transgressions, He was crushed for our iniquities; the punishment that brought us peace was upon Him, and by His wounds we are healed” (Isaiah 53:5).

When we truly understand what Jesus has done for us, worship becomes our natural response.

This is why Jesus taught His disciples to pray, “Hallowed be Your name” (Luke 11:2). We are praying that His name would be honored, worshiped, and glorified throughout the earth.

The Apostle Paul understood this deeply. His missionary efforts were carried out “for His name’s sake” (Romans 1:5). The early church proclaimed Christ “for the sake of the Name” (3 John 7).

Sharing the gospel is not ultimately about building churches, ministries, or personal influence. It is about helping people recognize the glory of the One who deserves their worship.

When Paul arrived in Athens, he was distressed by the city’s idols because people were worshiping created things instead of their Creator (Acts 17:16-18). His burden for God’s glory compelled him to preach Christ boldly.

May we develop that same passion.

May we never become comfortable with a world that ignores Jesus.

May we pray daily for fresh revelation of His glory.

And may that revelation move us to share the gospel boldly for His name’s sake.
