In 1 Kings 12:1–11, we encounter a defining moment in leadership history.
Rehoboam, the new king, is given a simple yet profound opportunity: lighten the burden on the people, and they will serve you faithfully.
The elders advised him wisely:
“If you will be a servant to these people today… then they will be your servants forever.” (1 Kings 12:7)
But instead of embracing humility, Rehoboam chose pride. He rejected wisdom and followed the counsel of those who encouraged domination over service.
The result? Division, loss, and a fractured kingdom.
This passage reveals a powerful truth: leadership is not about asserting authority—it is about serving others.
In The Spirit-Filled Business Leader, this principle is foundational. Spirit-filled leadership requires surrender, humility, and a heart aligned with Christ. It is not driven by ego, but by the Holy Spirit.
Jesus Himself modeled this in Matthew 20:26:
“Whoever desires to become great among you, let him be your servant.”
Whether in business, ministry, or family, the call is the same: lead by serving.
Pride destroys influence, but humility multiplies it.
When leaders choose to serve, they build trust, loyalty, and lasting impact.
Declaration
I am a servant leader, led by the Holy Spirit. I reject pride and embrace humility. God is using me to lead with wisdom, grace, and love. My leadership builds others and glorifies God.
Prayer
Father, in the name of Jesus, teach me to lead the way You lead. Remove every trace of pride from my heart, and fill me with humility and wisdom. Help me to serve others selflessly, to listen to Your voice above all others, and to lead in a way that honors You. Holy Spirit, guide my decisions, shape my character, and make me a vessel of Kingdom leadership. In Jesus’ mighty name, Amen.
