Solomon’s great prayer of dedication teaches us another powerful principle in 2 Chronicles 6:24.

Solomon describes a future situation in which Israel has been defeated because of sin. He prays that when God’s people return, “confess Your name, and pray and make supplication” before God, the Lord would hear them from heaven.

That word confess opens an important truth about biblical faith.

The Hebrew word associated with confession here is yadah. It carries ideas of acknowledgment, thanksgiving, praise, and confession and is related to yad, meaning “hand.”

This creates a beautiful picture when considered alongside Solomon’s physical posture earlier in the chapter. Second Chronicles 6:13 tells us that Solomon knelt and spread his hands toward heaven.

His hands were open.

There was no clenched fist of rebellion.

There was surrender.

There was worship.

There was dependence upon God.

This helps us understand the true spirit of faith’s confession.

Faith’s confession is not arrogantly ordering God to fulfill our desires. Neither is it pretending painful circumstances don’t exist.

Faith’s confession means taking our stand upon what God has spoken and declaring our confidence in His character and promises.

There will always be competing voices.

Fear speaks.

Circumstances speak.

Our past speaks.

Other people speak.

Our emotions speak.

The enemy speaks.

But God’s Word also speaks.

Faith must decide which voice receives the final authority.

David demonstrated this beautifully when he confronted Goliath.

David never denied that Goliath existed. The giant was very real. The sword was real. The spear was real. The threat was real.

But David refused to evaluate the battle solely by what his natural eyes could see.

He declared in 1 Samuel 17:45, “I come to you in the name of the LORD of hosts.”

David’s confession came before the giant fell.

That is faith.

Faith worships before the breakthrough.

Faith praises before circumstances change.

Faith declares God’s faithfulness while the giant is still standing.

Jesus taught in Mark 11:22–23, “Have faith in God,” and then spoke about speaking to the mountain.

Notice where Jesus placed the emphasis: Have faith in God.

Our confidence is not ultimately in our words.

Our confidence is in God.

We do not create truth by speaking. God’s Word already is truth. Jesus declared in John 17:17, “Your word is truth.”

Therefore, biblical confession isn’t saying whatever we want and expecting God to make it happen.

Biblical confession says:

“God has spoken, and I choose to stand here.”

When God says He will never leave us nor forsake us, we believe Him.

When God says there is no condemnation for those in Christ Jesus, we believe Him.

When God says His grace is sufficient, we believe Him.

When God says He hears us when we pray according to His will, we believe Him.

When God says nothing is impossible with Him, we believe Him.

Our confession becomes an expression of worship.

“Father, I believe You.”

“Father, I trust You.”

“Father, I thank You.”

“Father, Your Word is greater than my fear.”

“Father, even though I cannot see the answer yet, I know You are faithful.”

This is the spirit of yadah.

Open hands.

Thanksgiving.

Praise.

Confession.

Surrender.

Faith.

So ask yourself today:

What have I been confessing?

Have your words continually repeated the problem?

Have you been declaring defeat over your own future?

Have you allowed fear to preach to you every morning?

It is time to answer fear with God’s Word.

Fill your heart with Scripture until Scripture begins flowing from your mouth.

Open your hands in surrender.

Open your mouth in praise.

Confess the name of the Lord.

Speak His Word.

And worship before you see the answer.

Because true faith’s confession isn’t arrogant.

It is a surrendered believer saying:

“God has spoken. God is faithful. And I choose to believe Him.”

Declaration

I declare that Jesus Christ is Lord over every area of my life. God’s Word has greater authority in my life than fear, circumstances, feelings, accusations, or the lies of the enemy. My God is faithful, good, powerful, merciful, and true. I choose to confess His name, stand upon His Word, and praise Him before I see the answer. My hands are open in surrender, my heart is filled with faith, and my mouth will proclaim the faithfulness of God. I will not allow fear to dictate my confession. I choose agreement with heaven.

Prayer

Father, in the name of Jesus, I surrender my heart, my thoughts, and my words to You.

Forgive me for the times I have spoken from fear instead of faith.

Forgive me for allowing circumstances to become louder than Your promises.

Fill me with Your Word.

Holy Spirit, remind me of what God has spoken when fear tries to take control.

Teach me to confess Your name with humility, thanksgiving, praise, and faith.

You are my Provider.

You are my Healer.

You are my Peace.

You are my Shepherd.

You are my Deliverer.

You are my Rock.

You are my Redeemer.

You are faithful.

I choose to praise You while I wait.

I choose to worship before I see the breakthrough.

I choose to believe Your Word while the giant is still standing.

Let my words bring life, encouragement, hope, and glory to Jesus.

My hands are open in surrender.

My heart believes.

My mouth confesses Your faithfulness.

And my confidence is completely in You.
