Part 3

“My sheep hear My voice, and I know them, and they follow Me.” — John 10:27

One of the greatest privileges available to every believer is the ability to hear the voice of God. Yet many Christians spend years wondering if God is speaking to them, questioning His direction, and struggling to discern His leading.

The good news is that God has never stopped speaking.

From Genesis to Revelation, we see a God who communicates with His people. He spoke to Adam in the Garden, Noah before the flood, Abraham about his destiny, Moses at the burning bush, Samuel in the night, the prophets throughout Israel’s history, and ultimately through His Son Jesus Christ. After Christ’s ascension, the Holy Spirit continued speaking to and leading the early Church—and He still speaks today.

The issue is rarely God’s silence.

The issue is often the noise surrounding us.

We live in a world filled with distractions, opinions, entertainment, fear, social media, and endless demands for our attention. Many believers struggle to hear God not because He is silent, but because other voices have become louder.

Throughout this message, we explored several key truths:

God Is a Speaking God

Communication is part of God’s nature. The Bible begins with the words, “And God said…” Creation itself came into existence through the voice of God. The same God who spoke throughout Scripture still desires to speak to His children today.

God Speaks in Many Ways

God speaks through His Word, the inward witness of the Holy Spirit, peace, dreams, visions, prophecy, godly counsel, circumstances, and supernatural encounters. While God uses many methods, every form of communication must align with Scripture.

Spiritual Noise Can Block Our Hearing

Distractions, fear, pride, unforgiveness, busyness, and unconfessed sin can dull our spiritual sensitivity. God often speaks in the quiet place of intimacy rather than through the chaos of life.

Discernment Is Essential

Not every voice is God’s voice. Believers must learn to test everything against Scripture, the character of Christ, the peace of God, and the leading of the Holy Spirit. Discernment grows through relationship with Jesus.

Obedience Is the Goal

The purpose of hearing God is not merely gaining information. The purpose is obedience. Jesus said His sheep hear His voice and follow Him. Every act of obedience increases our spiritual sensitivity and deepens our relationship with the Shepherd.

God is still calling His people into deeper intimacy, greater discernment, and Spirit-led living. He desires believers who know His voice and confidently follow His leading.

The Shepherd is still speaking.

The question is: Will we listen and obey?

Declaration

Today I declare that I am one of God’s sheep and I hear His voice. My spiritual ears are open, my heart is sensitive to the Holy Spirit, and my mind is renewed by the Word of God. Every distraction, fear, confusion, and competing voice is being silenced. I will walk in discernment, obedience, and intimacy with Jesus. I declare that the Holy Spirit is guiding my steps and directing my path. In Jesus’ mighty name, Amen.

Prayer

Heavenly Father,

Thank You that You are a speaking God who desires relationship with Your children. Open our spiritual ears to hear Your voice more clearly than ever before. Remove every distraction, every fear, every stronghold, and every competing voice that seeks to drown out Your leading.

Fill us afresh with the Holy Spirit. Increase our discernment. Help us recognize Your voice and reject every counterfeit voice. Teach us to spend time in Your presence, meditate on Your Word, and walk in complete obedience to Your direction.

Give us courage to follow wherever You lead. Restore intimacy where it has been lost and awaken a fresh hunger for Your presence. Let us become believers who not only hear Your voice but faithfully follow You.
