As we conclude our study of 1 Kings 12:1–11, one truth stands above the rest:
Humility is the foundation of true leadership.
Rehoboam was given clear instruction:
“If you will be a servant to these people today… then they will be your servants forever.” (1 Kings 12:7)
This was not just good advice—it was a Kingdom principle.
Yet he rejected it.
Instead of humility, he chose pride.
Instead of serving, he chose control.
And the result was the loss of his kingdom.
This passage reveals a powerful reality: what pride tries to take, humility can sustain.
Jesus affirmed this in Luke 14:11:
“For whoever exalts himself will be humbled, and he who humbles himself will be exalted.”
In The Spirit-Filled Business Leader, this principle is essential. Spirit-filled leaders do not strive for position—they surrender to God’s process.
They understand that promotion does not come from self-effort, but from God’s hand.
Psalm 75:6–7 reminds us:
“Exaltation comes neither from the east nor from the west… but God is the Judge: He puts down one, and exalts another.”
Humility positions us for divine elevation.
It allows God to work through us, guide us, and establish us in ways that pride never could.
When we choose to serve, we gain influence.
When we choose humility, we gain grace.
When we surrender, we gain God’s direction.
The call is clear: lead as a servant, and trust God to elevate you.
Declaration
I walk in humility and servant leadership. I trust God for my promotion and elevation. I am led by the Holy Spirit in every decision. My life reflects the character and heart of Christ.
Prayer
Father, in the name of Jesus, I choose humility today. I surrender my desire for control, recognition, and position. I trust You to lead me, guide me, and elevate me in Your perfect timing. Teach me to serve with a pure heart, to lead with wisdom, and to walk in complete dependence on You. Holy Spirit, empower me to live as a true servant leader, reflecting Christ in every area of my life. In Jesus’ mighty name, Amen.
