As we continue our series on the Beatitudes found in the book of Revelation, we come to the second blessing spoken by Jesus in Revelation 16:15:
“Behold, I am coming as a thief. Blessed is he who watches, and keeps his garments, lest he walk naked and they see his shame.”
This statement occurs during the outpouring of God’s judgments upon the earth. Yet in the middle of these events, Jesus pauses to give a message directly to His followers.
The blessing is given to those who watch and keep their garments.
Watching means remaining spiritually alert. Jesus repeatedly told His disciples to stay watchful because His return would come suddenly and unexpectedly.
In Matthew 24:42, Jesus said:
“Watch therefore, for you do not know what hour your Lord is coming.”
Many people in the world live as though eternity does not exist. They are consumed with temporary things and ignore the reality of Christ’s return.
But believers are called to live differently.
The second part of this Beatitude speaks about keeping our garments. In Scripture, garments often symbolize righteousness and purity. Revelation 19:8 describes the fine linen worn by the saints as representing the righteous acts of God’s people.
This means the believer who walks in obedience, holiness, and faithfulness to Christ is living in readiness for His return.
As we see the events of the world unfolding around us, the words of Paul in Romans 13:11 ring true:
“Now it is high time to awake out of sleep.”
Christ is coming again.
And those who remain spiritually awake and faithful are called blessed.

Prayer
Heavenly Father, Help us to remain spiritually awake in a world filled with distractions. Strengthen us to walk in righteousness and purity as we follow Jesus. Teach us to live with expectation for the return of Christ and to remain faithful in every season. Fill us with the power of the Holy Spirit so that we may stand firm and walk in obedience until the day Jesus returns. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
