Salvation is entirely by grace. We do not deserve it. We cannot earn it. It is the free gift of God.

Yet Peter commands believers to “make every effort” to grow in grace (2 Peter 1:5; 3:18).

Why?

Because grace does not eliminate responsibility — it empowers transformation.

Peter lists qualities to add to our faith: goodness, knowledge, self-control, perseverance, godliness, kindness, and love. Yet Paul tells us these very qualities are the fruit of the Spirit (Galatians 5:22–23).

The paradox is clear:

We cannot produce spiritual fruit by human effort — but we must cooperate with the Spirit who produces it.

Believers do not remain spiritually neutral. Scripture repeatedly warns that those who neglect grace become ineffective, near-sighted, and vulnerable to deception (2 Peter 1–3; Hebrews 5–6).

Grace must be stewarded.

We grow in grace by:

• Walking in the Spirit

• Seeking continual filling of the Holy Spirit (Acts 2; 8; 10; 19; Ephesians 5)

• Prayer and worship

• Scripture meditation and obedience

• Fellowship and communion

• Resisting sin and serving faithfully

Spiritual growth requires intentional cooperation.

Grace starts the journey.

Grace sustains the journey.

Grace completes the journey.

But we must choose daily to walk in it.

I declare that I am growing in the grace and knowledge of Jesus Christ. I refuse to drift backward. I cooperate with the Spirit of grace. I add to my faith virtue, knowledge, self-control, perseverance, godliness, kindness, and love. I will be effective and fruitful in the Kingdom of God.

Father, thank You for the gift of salvation by grace. Thank You that I did not earn it and cannot lose it by weakness alone. But today I choose to cooperate with Your Spirit. Fill me again with the Holy Spirit. Produce Your fruit in me. Guard me from drifting. Guard me from spiritual blindness. Help me to steward Your grace faithfully. Let my life be effective, productive, and pleasing to You. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
