I recently read the book Revelation: Four Views, which compares four major end-time belief systems. What stood out immediately is that only one of these views takes the book at face value—the literal, Futurist view.
The Preterist View claims that the end-time events already happened in A.D. 70 with the destruction of Jerusalem:
• Jesus “coming in the clouds” = destruction of Jerusalem.
• Nero = the Beast.
• Babylon = Jerusalem.
• Roman Empire = prophetic government.
But Scripture paints a different picture.
Revelation 1:3 calls this a prophecy.
Matthew 24:21 speaks of a tribulation unlike anything the world has seen.
Acts 1:11 tells us Jesus will return just as He ascended—physically and visibly.
Titus 2:13 gives us the Blessed Hope of His glorious appearing.
The Preterist view removes the future hope of the church, but God’s Word gives us clarity, not confusion. We don’t build doctrine on imagination or symbolism; we stand on the literal truth of the Bible.
This is Part 1 of a 7-part series where we’ll uncover false views and build a strong, scriptural foundation for understanding the End Times.
Declaration
“I stand on the Word of God as my final authority.
I believe in the literal, visible, and glorious return of Jesus Christ.
I will not be swayed by man’s imagination or symbolism.
I fix my eyes on the Blessed Hope — the coming King.
My faith rests on God’s promises, not on theories.”
Prayer
Heavenly Father, thank You for the clarity of Your Word. Thank You for revealing the end from the beginning. Help me to stand firm in Your truth and not be shaken by false interpretations. Give me a discerning heart and a bold voice to share the hope of Jesus’ return. Fill me with expectancy and faith as I await the Blessed Hope. In Jesus’ mighty name, Amen.
