“Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God; and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.”

—Philippians 4:6–7

Supplication is more than simply asking God for something. The Greek word deomai means to pray earnestly, but it is tied to deō, “to bind.” Jesus said, “Whatever you bind on earth will be bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth will be loosed in heaven” (Matthew 16:19).

This shows us that supplication is prayer that intervenes and reverses. It’s not passive—it’s active! Supplication steps into brokenness and says, “This is not what God intended, and by the authority of Jesus Christ, I call it back into order.”

• When there is sickness, supplication binds disease and looses healing.
• When there is confusion, supplication binds lies and looses peace.
• When there is bondage, supplication binds the enemy and looses freedom.

Paul used the image of Roman soldiers guarding Philippi to describe how the peace of God garrisons our hearts when we pray this way. Just as soldiers defended a city, so God’s peace defends your mind and spirit.

Supplication is prayer that pulls heaven’s authority into earthly situations. It is prayer that refuses to let Satan’s lies stand. It is prayer that insists God’s will be done on earth as it is in heaven.

Declaration

I will pray with supplication, binding what is broken and loosing God’s order, believing that heaven’s will is released on earth.

Prayer

Lord, teach me to pray with supplication. Help me to bind the works of the enemy and loose Your will in my life, my family, and my nation. Thank You for the peace that guards my heart when I pray in faith. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
